Conservation and Restoration of the Statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate, New Delhi
On March 12, 2025, our team undertook an ambitious one-day conservation project to restore the iconic 28-foot-tall monolithic granite statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate, New Delhi. Weighing 65 tonnes and carved in hyper-realistic detail, this sculpture stands as a tribute to Netaji’s indomitable spirit and India’s freedom struggle. Located beneath the historic canopy near India Gate, the statue is a national treasure we were honored to preserve.
Our mission: to arrest deterioration, enhance structural resilience, and restore its visual grandeur while upholding the highest international conservation standards.
Key Achievements
Title: What We Accomplished
- Revitalized Aesthetic Appeal: Cleaned and restored the black granite to its original luster.
- Strengthened Resilience: Consolidated the stone surface and applied protective coatings against weather and pollutants.
- Rapid Execution: Completed all interventions within a single day without compromising quality.
- Preserved Authenticity: Ensured historical integrity using minimally invasive, reversible techniques.
Our Approach
How We Did It
Our team employed a scientifically rigorous and ethically sound methodology:
- Assessment & Planning: Detailed condition mapping and pre-cleaning analysis.
- Innovative Scaffolding: Erected a 28-foot bamboo framework for safe, full access to the monolith.
- Precision Treatment: Used pH-neutral solutions, soft brushes, and conservation-grade materials for cleaning and consolidation.
- Overcoming Challenges: Managed logistical hurdles, structural oscillations, and a high-security environment with technical expertise.
Despite slippery scaffolds, restricted access, and a tight timeline, our adaptive problem-solving ensured success.
Impact & Conclusion
A Legacy Preserved
The restored statue now stands stronger and more vibrant, inspiring millions who visit India Gate. This project showcases our commitment to heritage preservation, blending scientific precision with cultural reverence. By safeguarding this symbol of patriotism, we’ve contributed to India’s collective memory and national pride.
Our work reflects not just technical expertise, but a deep respect for the stories monuments tell—and a promise to keep them alive for future generations.
